Opossum Trapping

Opossum’s (or Possum’s) are not typically an issue for most home and property owners. However, they can occasionally be a nuisance and in that situation, we are here to help! Our trapping program for Possums is humane and highly effective. While we are trapping on your property we thoroughly inspect to find the best location to trap and remove these critters, but we also do our best to find what conditions attracted the Possums to your property in the first place and can make suggestions to avoid future issues. Our Possum trapping and removal service area in North Georgia extends as far south as Alpharetta, Crabapple, Duluth, Johns Creek, Marietta, Milton, Roswell, and Suwanee then going as far north as Ball Ground, Blue Ridge, Cumming, Dahlonega, Dawsonville, Ellijay, Gainesville, and Jasper.  If you are outside of these areas just give us a call!  We want to help and will see what we can do to help you!

Our Opossum/Possum control and removal program is humane, quick and highly effective!  Call us for a free consultation today!

1. THEY ARE NOT AGGRESSIVE

Even when confronted with a predator (animal or human), they will use the infamous “playing possum” technique to appear dead and avoid an actual brawl.
They can stay zoned out for hours, emitting a foul odor to convince you that it is dead or decomposing.

2. THEY DO NOT HAVE RABIES

Unlike most other wild animals, possums are nearly completely immune to contracting rabies or passing it along. This is due to their natural body temperature being too low to maintain hosting the virus.

3. TICK CONTROL

According to stats reported by the National Wildlife Federation, a possum can potentially eliminate 4,000 ticks in one week thanks to their extreme self-grooming methods (either crushing or consuming the ticks burrowing in their fur). They also aren’t susceptible to Lyme disease and therefore can protect humans from contracting it, as they rid an area of the real pests.

4. WASTE MANAGEMENT & GARDEN PEST PATROL

They are not picky eaters. If it’s edible, they’ll eat it — including commonly dining on animals struck by vehicles on the road (bones and all), which scientists refer to as “carrion.”
This basically makes them nature’s most efficient waste-management team and cleanup crew. As well as protecting your garden since they eat troublesome garden pests like slugs, beetles, and cockroaches, but they will leave the flowers or veggies you’re growing undisturbed.

5. ONLY MARSUPIAL IN THE USA

AFFORDABLE POSSUM TRAPPING SERVICES

As with all trapping jobs, we charge a FLAT-RATE TRAPPING FEE for One (1) week of possum trapping. There has not been one possum trapping job that went over the one-week timeframe in over a decade of trapping.  There is NO setup fee, NO per animal fee, NO need for an estimate or quote.  Our possum trapping service is all-inclusive, it includes (5) trips out.  We have to check our traps every single day… it is the law.  This is when we check the traps and relocate any possums trapped. Daily trap checking is important for many reasons: 1) It’s the law, 2) Humane to the possums but equally important 3) It enables us to make the most out of your trapping dollars by our Professional Wildlife Technicians have the opportunity to reposition any traps that are not productive.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU HIRE A PROFESSIONAL:

  • We have to inspect the property to determine the best trap to use and the location of the traps.
  • We use live cage traps that are effective and humane.
  • During the hot months, our live traps are kept in the shade when possible and we check our traps as early as possible to assure that the animals are subjected to the least amount of stress as possible by being in the trap. Opossums are hearty & hold up very well in our traps!
  • We release opossums when & where permissible by law. While taking into consideration both the food supply and water source.
  • Any injured opossums trapped are triaged and rehabbed by our in-house licensed wildlife rehabber then released when they are ready to go back into the wild.
  • Opossums are nocturnal (active in the nighttime) – so we release them only during the evening hours so the chances of their survival are in their favor.

POSSUM TRAPPING SERVICES

Hand Catching Opossums

We treat these as an EMERGENCY CALL- 24/7 we respond. We find it easier to charge a flat rate fee to come to your property and hand catch and remove a possum that has found his way into your house or building.  90% of our calls to hand catch and remove a possum in from within dumpsters and garbage cans.

We do not try to hand catch a Possum that is outside and free to run or climb. Our Licensed Wildlife Technicians will spend up to a half-hour looking for & attempting to catch the opossum. Whether we leave with the opossum or not we get paid for our effort and attempt to remove it.

OPOSSUM EXCLUSION (Repairs)

Exclusion is the act of using animal proof materials, devices and methods to keep the animals OUT. Once the animals are taken out, they leave behind odors, feces, and scents which may attract other animals. Although we have taken the tenant away (far enough to never find their way back) it just clears the way for the next one to find their way in unless you block off its ability to “Get back IN”. Although possums commonly den low under decks, patios, etc.  They are very talented climbers.

We only use the highest quality animal-proof materials and devices, therefore, we are proudly able to guarantee that no animal will get past the areas where we have performed the exclusion services. With all of this said, there is no way to give a price for exclusion work over the phone. WHILE we are setting up the traps it is necessary for us to determine how the animals are gaining access or entry into the building or property – this is when we are able to provide a proposal for the cost of the exclusion work. IF the proposal is acceptable we will perform the exclusion work while the trapping is being performed which increases the overall success of the entire process.
